Team DSM is aiming for day success for Cees Bol next week in the Tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The successor to cycling team Sunweb sees four opportunities for the sprinter from Alkmaar in the first World Tour race of the season.
“We focus on day success. And especially in the stages in which we expect a bunch sprint”, sports director Luke Roberts says about the UAE Tour, which starts next Sunday.
“There are four of them. Cees is our man and we have a strong ‘train’ to help him with that. The experienced Nikias Arndt is the man to steer it in the right direction.”
In addition to the four predominantly flat stages, the seven-day stage race in the Emirates also includes a short individual time trial and two stages with an uphill finish, where Thymen Arensman and Briton Mark Donovan go for their chance.
Bol is, together with Arensman, the Dutch representation in the DSM team. The formation also consists of the Dane Asbjørn Kragh Andersen, the Italian Alberto Dainese and the German Florian Stork, a fellow countryman of Arndt’s.
The Tour of the UAE lasts from 21 to 27 February and has a strong field of participants. Bol faces competition from top sprinters Sam Bennett and Caleb Ewan, among others, and names such as Mathieu van der Poel, Tadej Pogacar and Chris Froome also participate.
