Until 2024, an electronic system for registering privileged passengers should be introduced in Latvian public transport.

The question of introduction of such system of identification of the passengers having the right to preferential travel in public transport of Daugavpils was discussed this week at a meeting of committees of a municipal duma.

Daugavpils satiksme suggested using a QR code already familiar to the townspeople for this. It, according to the representative of the enterprise, it will be possible to use Daugavpils and for other needs in the territory of the city.

During the pandemic, the use of a QR code has proven to be both simple and secure. According to self-government data, about 20,000 Daugavpils seniors printed out their code in the city’s institutions and actively used it.

Daugavpils satiksme considers the QR code to be a unique means of identification: it is convenient, popular, known to a wide range of users, well recognizable and easily adaptable to many systems. To check it, no special tools are needed, but only a regular mobile phone with a camera to read the code. This means lower costs for the enterprise.

Users will be able to download the code to their mobile phone, print it out and laminate it if they wish.

At the same time, the new system will be introduced not earlier than in a year and a half. Now Daugavpils satiksme works 134 conductor. By 2024 44% of them reach retirement age. Some of the remaining conductors will be able to stay at the enterprise, changing their profession: for example, to become tram drivers. For other workers with the help of a thought will look for work at other enterprises of self-management.

Projected redundancy benefit payments will be 150,000 eurosand almost 98,000 euros per month.
