In April, Ukraine imported pork by 80 tons or 16% less than a month earlier and set a new record low for monthly supplies since 2018.

As reported analysts of the “Swinemakers of Ukraine” Association, referring to the data of customs statistics, the total receipts of fresh, chilled and frozen pork in April amounted to 424 tons, which is 1.03 million dollars. in currency equivalent.

“In contrast to previous years, low import activity has created an atypical lever of support for domestic prices on the pork market, because raw materials from abroad currently do not create competition for domestic ones. This is due to the long-term increase in pork prices in EU countries, which has been ongoing since January and although it slowed down a little in April, it did not stop. Accordingly, it is more difficult for domestic importers to find “passable” price positions for the Ukrainian market: the average price of a kilogram of imported pork in April increased to $2.4 against $1.88/ kg in March,” commented the Association.

Analysts note that 3.58 thousand tons of chilled and frozen pork meat arrived in Ukraine in January-April this year. This is 4.5 times less than in the same period last year.

Deliveries of chilled and frozen pig meat to Ukraine in March amounted to 503 tons or 949 thousand dollars. in monetary terms, which is almost a third less than a month ago.

At the same time, the average price of a kilogram of chilled pork on the Ukrainian market in March was UAH 180.3/kg, which is 2.1%, or UAH 3.7/kg, higher than the February figure.
