In December last year on the territory of the former cinema “Renaissance”, and now the Daugavpils Innovation Center, located in the city center on the street. Vienibas, 20 launched a large-scale project to improve the energy efficiency of the building. After completing the preparatory work, the builders (SIA “JĒKABPILS PMK” and SIA “BELMAST BилиVE”) proceeded to dismantle the premises and began to insulate the basements.

A project co-financed by the ERAF must be completed in 12 months. During this time, a whole range of transformations will have to be carried out here: to insulate the basement space, roof and walls from the inside, replace external doors, hatches and windows, re-equip the heating and hot water supply system, install mechanical ventilation and replace lighting. All this will significantly reduce the energy loss of a large building and have a positive effect on the operation of the building.

In parallel with insulation, the Norwegian grant project for the creation and modernization of innovation centers in Latvia, which is being implemented in Daugavpils, Cesis, Liepaja and Ventspils, is moving forward. As part of this initiative, it is planned to develop students’ knowledge in the field of exact sciences (STEM) and help them in choosing a career. For this, new interest-based education programs will be developed for schoolchildren, students and teachers. The center will be an excellent base for practical exercises with interesting game elements. Now preparations are underway for the procurement and transportation of these objects.

All game and educational elements that were previously located in the Innovation Center have successfully moved to the premises of the old building of Daugavpils University (13 Vienibas str., Room 115).

The Center’s staff will be ready to welcome young visitors to the new location immediately after the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
