Important announcement from K&H: even the logo has been replaced by the bank

September is the month of sustainability at K&H, the management of the financial institution announced at today’s press conference. “We do a lot and even more in our own operations for sustainability, but month by month we also introduce more financial products and solutions in order to help both our residential and corporate customers in the transition from a sustainability point of view. “said Guy Libot, CEO of K&H.

The CEO said: K&H continuously tries to reduce its ecological footprint and carbon dioxide emissions both with the business solutions it provides to its customers and in its own operational area. Sustainable residential buildings are supported with discounted green home loans and renewable energy financing, and the electric car leasing scheme offers an environmentally friendly solution for businesses, and hybrid and electric cars can be purchased with discounted insurance terms. He emphasized that when compiling the portfolio of responsible future investment funds, in addition to the financial aspects, the environmental and social effects of the given companies or countries are also taken into account. “In one year, our customers invested twice as much money in our socially responsible investment funds as before. Thus, overall, they make up more than 11 percent of the entire investment portfolio.” Guy Libot added.

Less carbon dioxide, trees are also planted

The K&H group has set itself the goal of significantly reducing its CO2 emissions by 80 percent by 2030 compared to 2015. “By the end of 2021, K&H – the first in the Hungarian banking sector – essentially achieved net carbon neutrality, emitting 13,000 tons less carbon dioxide, which is 74 percent lower than the 2015 level. And the residual emissions from its operation are neutralized by supporting so-called offset, i.e. carbon dioxide neutralization projects, such as reforestation or sustainable agriculture,” the CEO explained the company’s results. The banking group is implementing further energy upgrades at its customer points and headquarters, and has also replaced its car fleet with 200 hybrid-powered cars. Digitalization of all financial operations, biometric identification enabling paperless administration and the introduction of digital signatures all result in a reduction of the carbon footprint. In 2021, for example, 5.9 million fewer letterheads were used than a year earlier.

“We will call September the month of sustainability, when we will focus even more attention on the importance of sustainability with the transformation of our logo, and we even want to create an annual tradition out of it. We are confident that other companies and financial institutions will join us,” stated CEO Guy Libot.

During the sustainability month, K&H organizes many events, for example, as part of the K&H cooling groves initiative, schools can apply for saplings and bushes if they agree to plant them in the surroundings of the institution. K&H customers are also involved in the donation, between September 18 and October 31, after digital payments, K&H allocates HUF 10 per transaction for the creation of K&H cooling groves. Plantings are planned to be carried out between November 2022 and April 2023.

According to the commitment announced today, K&H will not illuminate the external facades of customer points and company buildings in September. In this way, it uses about 24,000 kilowatts less electricity, which corresponds to the consumption of about 200 average households, and it also reduces light pollution.
