Judge Marian Bertalanic sentenced him to eight months probation for three years, and two security measures – mandatory psychiatric treatment that can last up to three years, and a ban on approaching and harassing Nina Badric, also for three years.

In addition, Elijah must pay the costs of a psychiatric examination. If he does not comply with the imposed measures, the court may revoke his suspended sentence and send him to prison.

In the explanation of the verdict, the judge stated that the court did not find any reason or motive, for which Nina Badrić would falsely accuse Ilija.

– She very convincingly, vividly and circumstantially described how you followed and harassed her during the incriminated period. First, she blocked you on Facebook, so she clearly and unequivocally told you that she did not want any contact and that you should stop harassing her. She also let you know at Jelsa. As it had no effect, in the end she was forced to file a criminal complaint – the judge said and added that the way he followed the victim would cause anxiety and fear for his safety for every citizen.

He was accused of following and stalking Nina Badrić from 2018 to 2020, and trying to make unwanted contact with her, both through the social page and in person.

In his defense, Elijah denied the allegations.

– I do not dispute that I liked Miss Nina in her music, and that I was her fan. That’s why I went to her concerts, not every one, but I was at about 15 concerts in ten years. I never put myself in the position of being close to her. I had fun at those concerts, I don’t know what the wording that I stared or was rude means. I went to Jelsa, because I have been vacationing there for seven years and that has nothing to do with it – said pensioner Ilija.

He added that he rents a room in Jelsa, and that it is true that he changed it three times, but that was allegedly because of the price, and not because of anything else.

– Jelsa is a small town and everything is about 200 meters away. I never knocked on her door. I don’t know how many other artists were attacked on Facebook, what I left in the comments was always support, while there were others who were embarrassing. I never approached her backstage or shouted anything at concerts. I approached her only once when I went to the store in Kvintička Street in Zagreb. She went out and locked the door of the apartment, after she turned I approached her and told her to write songs. The second time in Jelsa, she saw me and approached me and asked if I was following her. I said that I do not follow her and that I am there because of the climate and because I like the town, and the next day I left – he said and added that he actually hoped for business cooperation, because he writes songs and Nina is a singer.

He mentioned that he used to walk down the street in Zagreb where she lives, but that it was because he also lives nearby, and buys in shops there.

– I sent one of my songs to her Facebook page, which she, or someone from her team, the administrator of the page, praised and that was the reason for me to contact her – Ilija assured.

He did not want to answer further questions.

He has the right to appeal the verdict.
