The ViaNavigo application for iPhone has been updated, change of name (Ile-de-France Mobilités) and good news, this new version brings the possibility of recharging your transport ticket via NFC on iPhone, a week in advance compared to on the scheduled date.
It was already possible to do this on Android for a while, it is now also the case on Apple smartphones. However, you must have activated Apple Pay as a means of payment on your terminal for the magic to work.
Once the app is open, you are prompted to drop your card on the top of the device. It is scanned, you will then have the choice to buy the subscription solution or the transport tickets you need. A priori, everything is very simple and is done in a few minutes. And the initiative is more than welcome in these times of pandemic.

Charging, yes, but not on all iPhones
There are two hiccups, however. The first, if your transport card dates from the 2010s (the one with the big purple dot and the old Navigo logo), it is not compatible with the service. You can, however, have it redone at a counter, it doesn’t take very long and you can update this photo that you may be ashamed of …
Second concern, the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max models are not yet recognized by the app, even if they are under iOS 13, the minimum OS version recommended by developers. This will not be long, if we believe the message displayed in the app.
Apple and IDFM discuss substitution
For now, we can only top up the physical card with a subscription. Unable to substitute iPhone for this one. And this, although this is, in the long term, what IDFM is trying to do. The transport authority has therefore initiated discussions with Apple in this regard, as it did with Samsung in its time, and hopes to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
