IFA: Netatmo Smart Door Lock uses your smartphone as a spare key

Netatmo has demonstrated its Smart Door Lock at the IFA in Berlin, which can be opened with a smartphone in addition to special smart keys. While the product is said to be in its final development phase, the manufacturer has not yet revealed an exact release date. A beta program has been set up this summer, in which Netatmo users have already been able to try out the lock.

The lock is compatible with all doors with a European cylinder, provided that the maximum thickness of 10 centimeters is not exceeded. The original cylinder is replaced, although the new one does bring all kinds of extra functionality. With the free app, users can (de)activate keys as desired, in addition, the smartphone also serves as a spare key. Anyone who has guests over and is not at home can send an invitation to open or close the door via the app.

In the field of mechanical security, the lock has various certifications, including A2P, SKG**, BZ+ and EN15684. In addition, Bluetooth is used to open the door wirelessly and perform other operations, there is no connection to the internet. All data is therefore stored locally and not in the cloud. Furthermore, Netatmo emphasizes that there are no hidden costs, such as a subscription or a home automation box.
