At IFA 2022 in Berlin, Garmin unveiled two new wearables, the Venu Sq 2, which will cost $249.99, and the Vivofit Jr. 3 of Black Panther that comes in at $89.99.
The Venu Sq 2 also comes in a Music Edition, for $50 more, which has Wi-Fi connectivity and built-in storage for offline music playback (stores up to 500 songs) via Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music.
Rest of the specifications and features remain the same in Venu Sq 2 and Venu Sq 2 – Music Edition. Both feature 1.41″ AMOLED color touchscreens with a resolution of 360×320 pixels, with the lens protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The bezels are made of anodized aluminum, while the case is made of fiber-reinforced polymer. They weigh 38 grams each and feature 20mm silicone straps.
While the battery size was not revealed, Garmin claims that both smartwatches will last up to 11 days on a full charge in Smartwatch mode, and that number will increase to 12 when the Smartwatch Saver Battery feature is activated.
However, you’ll only get up to 26 hours of endurance on both watches in GPS-only GNSS mode and up to 20 hours in all-systems GNSS mode. In the Music Edition, if you decide to listen to music, that number will drop from 20 to 7 hours.
Talking about the health and fitness features, both the smartwatches come with heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen level monitoring and sleep monitoring. They can also measure your stress levels and have support for tracking women’s menstrual cycles.
There’s also a feature called Body Battery Energy Monitoring that helps you identify the best times for activity and rest during the day, while Fitness Age uses chronological age, weekly vigorous activity, resting heart rate and body mass index fat to estimate whether your body is younger or older than you.
Both are preloaded with more than 25 indoor and outdoor sports apps, including walking, running, cycling, pool swimming, HIIT and tennis. Users also have the ability to create their own workouts from over 1,600 exercises using the Garmin Connect app.
Venu Sq 2 and Sq 2 – Music Edition are water resistant and work with iPhone and Android. They support contactless payments via Garmin Pay and come with Smart Notifications for text, email, and other apps. Android users can even reply to text messages from the watch. Additionally, the security and tracking features on the Venu Sq 2 duo allow users to send a message with their live location to default contacts when paired with the smartphone, in case they need help.
The regular model is available in gray/slate, white/cream gold and cool mint/metallic mint shades, while the Music Edition in black/slate, ivory/peach gold and French gray/cream gold shades.
Both versions come in a single 40mm case size and are already available for purchase in the US via Garmin’s official website.
The new Black Panther Vivofit Jr. Edition. 3, looks quite similar to the original, with the difference that it includes purple accents on the strap. Garmin offers trackers with themes from Marvel, Star Wars and Disney princesses, since the model is mainly aimed at children. It also has a replaceable battery that lasts more than a year.
