If the future of game drives is under WD?

At Gamescom, we not only hunted for impressions and interviews of the modified games, but also looked at the new hardware. For example, we stopped by the Western Digital booth, where they showed us their extensive portfolio of devices focused on games, but they also revealed what they are preparing for the near and distant future. They answered our questions Fabrizio Keller aNeil Flynn.

When you use ben, you’re thinking about the performance of disks, I mean only live capacity, higher speed, or something like RGB. But how can you stick discs outside this area?

FK: fine, that’s a very good point. The metal area that we look at in the development of these disks is the same as those that are due for damage, that is, better performance, higher speed, more capacity. That’s for sure. However, design is more important for games than for other audiences, so it is another thing that we carefully consider in order to arrange it with regard to its unique design. Overall, however, I would say that today it is mainly the area of performance capacity, which is roughly the same today. At the beginning, when we released the WD Black family of devices, we focused only on capacity. Now let’s also focus on the capacity and power. Now we have an NVMe disk with a storage capacity of 4TV, which was unthinkable a few years ago, but its performance is at the limit of PCIe 4.0.

NF: I would add to someone that the new Game Mode 2.0 is a good example of how we can do things by adapting and sticking. So let’s look at how we can make things better for the poor.

FK: It’s also a matter of patching the firmware and algorithm, something that users usually don’t notice.

Why is the first cooling so long for daily discs?

FK: Cooling is very important, because heat is the enemy of good food. In this case, the heat is generated by the disk itself. That’s why we see more solutions with sheetsink, heat dissipation or even external disks with a clay cooling solution. We cannot remove the heat completely, but it should be reduced in such a way that the players can play for a long time and get good results.

Your game portfolio was divided into products for enthusiasts, mainstream audiences and hardcore games. How do you market your products to these target audiences?

FK: For us, hardcore games are the most important time, because they influence all parts of the audience. But we always think about solutions that focus on all the damage. There isn’t a single product line where we deliver better quality than inch. We deliver maximum quality for our entire offer, products for mainstream games, products for hardcore games, products for PlayStation, for Xbox, PC, laptops. However, this is an idea of how we distribute our offer according to group games.

You have a really wide portfolio of discs for different platforms, but you still lack discs for Xbox Series X/S consoles. Do you have any tools for preparing such discs?

NF: about Xbox, we have a designed portfolio, like with D30, D10, P10. These are compatible with Xbox Series X and Sako external drives, as well as the new P40 and P50 that we show here. But that’s all he has to say about me.

In recent years, disk technology has advanced significantly. How do you see the evolution of discs in the coming years?

FK: I think we are seeing some kind of evolution, mainly on the part of the manufacturers of IP motherboards. We will also see an evolution on the side of NAND flash technology, which will continue to develop, increasing the capacity density. However, we will focus on the field of avkon capacity. But also other innovations such as DirectStorage and umonia will focus more on storage as an important element of the storage business.
