IBM reveals that its 14nm Z15 processor can reach 6 GHz

Lately we have given special importance to the hardware segment. Especially because the brands contribute to this interest with the launch of new and attractive products.

Now IBM shows that it is in good health with its 14 nanometer Z15 processor. According to the manufacturer, this processor is capable of reaching 6GHz.

Technological advances are felt by all sectors of the industry. But recently the hardware segment has received a lot of attention from the media and, consequently, from consumers and potential new partners.

IBM says its 14 nm Z15 processor can reach 6GHz

IBM (International Business Machines) is an American company and one of the oldest in the technological world. It was founded in 1911, but it is still more than prepared to face and follow the innovation and evolution of technologies.

Proof of this is that the processor IBM Z15 continues to surprise, even though it was created in 2019 through a 14 nanometer SOI FinFET process. It was jointly developed by IBM and GlobalFoundries and is possibly the best 14 nm manufacturing process on the market, beating even Intel’s 14 nm.

This processor consists of 12 cores, 5.20 GHz, 4 MB of I-L2 and D-L2 cache per core and a total of 256 MB of L3 cache in all cores and 960 MB of L4 cache.

But during the International Virtual Solid State Circuit Conference (ISSCC 2021), a IBM revealed that the Z15 processor has 99.99999% uptime at the frequency of 5.20 GHz and the performance of a single core has been increased by 14%.

In addition, the manufacturer indicates that the Z15 is capable of reaching the frequency of 6.00GHz at “normal room temperature and voltage”. However, it is estimated that there may be problems with energy consumption and heat dissipation below 6GHz.
