I watched the sensational “Irony of Fate in Hollywood”. The classics were abused so that people left the cinema

A foreign “remake” of the film “Irony of Fate” was released in Russian distribution.

They were directed by Marius Weisberg, who made the films “(NOT) the ideal man”, “Love in the big city” (the entire trilogy), “Hitler Kaput” and “Flying Crew”. The list is far from the best, so it initially did not inspire confidence.

Let’s put aside all questions of bias – I’m not a fan of “The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!”. It just so happened. But in this situation, it’s immediately obvious that I won’t go into nostalgia in the text about “it used to be better” – it might have been, but now it’s really terrible, and this does not at all apply to what the original was.

We have already seen the novelty and are in a hurry to share our impressions.

Pathetic parody or just another movie?

I will immediately answer the question – this is a completely different movie, which has almost nothing to do with the original.

What is the movie about: The story is about two strangers, Margo and Griffin, who wake up on December 30 each in their own house with the thought that they are living the best day of their lives.

However, things traditionally do not go according to plan: Margot leaves the guy before her sister’s wedding, and Griffin’s girlfriend refuses to become his wife. As a result, on New Year’s Eve, Griffin unexpectedly ends up at Margot’s house.

The script for the film feels like it was torn out of hundreds of similar films – there are so many different clichés and templates that the picture relies on. And it’s more like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” than “The Irony of Fate.” Two factors play in favor of my statement at once: a large number of references to an American film and many similar plot outcomes. But no, it’s still a completely different movie.

The story is as simple as the world. It is oversaturated with typical Weisberg gags and stupid jokes, which, however, do not descend to toilet humor (almost), as is customary with the director. What’s good is that Marius’ corporate identity is almost invisiblealthough this does not help the situation.

The problem is that romantic comedies fail to actually make the audience laugh. What is happening on the screen looks not just simulated, but for real stupid and inadequate. Such a parody would be excusable, which skillfully ridicules boring clichés. However, in this case, we see only attempts to clumsily copy millions of other hackneyed jokes.

And the scenario date of December 30-31 does not play any role here. This is not a New Year’s miracle or fate (which, however, we are constantly told directly on the forehead): there is no symbolism in these dates, because in the USA Christmas is celebrated on December 25, and not the New Year.

Everyone on screen characters are secondary and do not offer something special and unique. And their game leaves much to be desired. It’s not that you don’t believe in their heroes, you’re sick of looking at them. Apparently, not only I thought so, because a couple of people left the session (there were not very many of them in general).

Pretty much everything here is bad.

From the editing to the script, everything is bad here. The only thing that saves the picture is the hasty end of the story – it ends so quickly, it rushes to the finale that you actually don’t even notice how 1.5 hours have passed.

The scenery in the film is made lazily, even the banal habitation of the apartment in which the main characters find themselves is not felt.

Questions also arise about the production and script. Even in the plot, it seemed as if all Americans kept the keys to the apartment in a pot of plants – “well, stupid.”

Gluing in places looks too wrestled: the viewer simply does not have time to understand what he has just seen, and he is already being thrown into the next frame. And so everywhere. It seemed as if the authors wanted to show everything, everywhere and at once, but in fact it turned out to be very chaotic.

The only good thing about the movie is the actors. Yes, I said above that they cannot (or do not want to, which is closer to the truth) to cope with their images. However, they are still charming in places. You want to follow them. It is a pity that this is critically insufficient.

Don’t waste your time on this

The Irony of Fate in Hollywood is a mediocre film that you shouldn’t go to the cinema to see. Yes, even at home, I would not recommend watching it. Unless you turn it on in the background while you go about your business. And then, if only WELL VERY want.

As a result, we got a very weak rom-com with poorly developed characters, stupid jokes and unrealistic acting. I’m serious: do not overestimate the expectations of this picture, it will not lead to anything good.
