I think that more transparency is required from the Government

Investments in health care, as well as increasing the quality of medical services, must become real priorities for Romania, says Corina Cretu: “More transparency is required from the Government on how European funds are used for this field.”

“Investments in the field of health, as well as increasing the quality of medical services, must become real priorities for Romania. I think that more transparency is required from the Government in connection with the way in which the European funds are used for this field “, declares the MEP Corina Cretu, former European Commissioner.

She says there are some questions about this sector that need urgent answers.

„What is happening with the Regional Hospitals from Craiova, Iași and Cluj-Napoca, which have had feasibility studies carried out for years, the approved locations, but also the necessary financing? When will the tenders be launched and when will the actual construction of these hospitals start so that the citizens of these regions will benefit from quality health services as soon as possible? How has Romania used the exceptional measures adopted by the European Parliament since March last year, which offered increased flexibility in the use of European funds in the financial year 2014-2020, as they can be directed primarily to the field of health? What is the stage of the negotiations of the Operational Health Program for the period 2021-2027 and what projects are included in this program? Is the inclusion in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of three new hospitals confirmed: in Brașov, Focșani and Sibiu? If so, what measures are taken to ensure that they are met within the PNRR deadline (December 2026)? I think that the citizens deserve these answers, because they represent chances with which – very realistically – Romania may not meet again “, concludes Cretu.

The Prime Minister Florin Cîţu declared, on Wednesday, that in all chapters the amounts from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) have been reduced, and this falls within 29 billion euros
