I like such innovations. Hammer Blade 5G: night vision test

Recently, the Polish company mPTech sent me a press release about the start of selling the Hammer Blade 5G phone, which is valued at PLN 2499. In promotional materials, the manufacturer boasts a 6.3-inch screen, a 5000 mAh battery and water resistance.

However, when I got to the part about the built-in night vision device, I was intrigued, so I knew I just had to check it out.

How does night vision work in the Hammer Blade 5G?

The function is integrated in the system application. Night vision is just another mode alongside photos and video.

Applied the night vision device is of the active typewhich means it requires a light source to function. The LEDs on the back of the housing emit, of course infrared lightwhich is invisible to the human eye.

The additional camera has a resolution of 20 Mpix, generates monochrome photos and works in virtually all lighting conditions.

I recorded the following video at night, in complete darknesswhen the lights in the whole apartment were turned off. The camera of any other phone I know would not capture anything in such conditions except a black spot.

The camera with night vision does not have autofocus, but anything that is further than approx. 30 cm from the lens remains sharp.

Of course, the active mode of operation of the night vision device makes the range of its operation is limited through the diodes. This one, however, is comparable to smartphone flashlights. Visibility is excellent within a few meters. Objects 20 meters away are darker but still visible.

The infrared eye does not see, but the Hammer Blade 5G camera itself does. The side effect is that you can see the strong ones in the pictures reflecting light from mirrors or basically any shiny surfaces.

In promotional materials, Hammer suggests that the Blade 5G night vision device will work “at parties”. In my opinion, however, this mode is not very suitable for photographing people, because the infrared light reflects from the eyes, which looks bad.

Marketing marketing, but night vision devices were not created with events in mind. Hammer Blade 5G does what it is supposed to do and that’s it.

It is a pity that the night vision device does not work in video mode, but only when taking photos.

Best of all, the night vision device simply fits the Hammer Blade 5G phone

In the case of this particular smartphone, it is not a gimmick due to the lack of other ideas, but something that may actually interest potential customers.

Hammer Blade 5G to rugged smartphone, aimed at people living in more difficult conditions. If someone works on a construction site or loves to camp, I believe that a camera that can see in complete darkness can be useful.

I am also glad that the device has an additional ultra-wide-angle lens, which is still rare in rugged smartphones. And yet such a lens is perfect, for example, to capture the progress of work on a construction site.

Really I love this approach for rugged smartphones. It is often the case that manufacturers repack an ordinary Chinese in a thicker housing and sell it as a tool for special tasks. Hammer Blade 5G does not impress with the screen, computing power or the quality of photos, but at least I feel that someone thought it over and made sure that this phone really works in the field.
