I do not own those sentences, Erdogan!

Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is speaking at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality “3rd Year in Service” Presentation.

Highlights from İmamoğlu’s statement:

How the country’s economy is managed directly affects everyone, every institution and organization, as well as local governments. On the one hand, huge hikes in fuel and energy and rapid increases in foreign currency deteriorate the income-expenditure balance in municipalities. Believe me, we cannot calculate the cost. Firms no longer enter our tenders because they cannot cost. On the other hand, in order to heal the social wounds caused by increasing poverty and unemployment, the shares we allocate in our municipality are reaching incredible figures. Since we took over the task, the budget we have allocated for social assistance is about to reach 6 times.

Undoubtedly, it is the duty of the central government to support the municipal administration, which is trying to solve the huge and serious problems of Istanbul. Policies that will darken the future of Istanbul should be abandoned as soon as possible.

The sentence that started with the words ‘The central government has practically applied political terror to the İBB’. How do those sentences fit today? How it tells about today, as if it describes today, as if I had said it. I do not own those sentences. The person who coined those sentences in May 1995 is today’s president, Mr. Erdogan. Believe what I say today, it will be less.

There are no limits, no calculations for illegal and impudent practices against IMM. If I start counting what he’s done, we won’t have time to talk about anything else here. We grieve for our country. Instead, I would like to ask a question to those who carry out all these illegal and oppressive practices. Are all your bullying and footsteps working? No matter what you do, can you prevent us from providing better services, making new investments, and finding solutions to the problems you have turned into gangrene? Never never.

We do not see public investments as a means of enrichment for a handful of people. For 3 years, we have been making all our expenditures transparently, participatively and only for the public interest. We are constantly improving our service quality and diversity, and we are steadily increasing our investments even in these crisis conditions.
