After a few more or less successful years with Android, I found that I needed something new, and currently the only alternative is iOS. I didn’t look for a long time, because the best choice in my budget was the iPhone 11. In many respects it is really great equipment, but I am looking at the competition with increasing envy and my next equipment will not necessarily be an Apple product.
Big batteries, fast charging …
Among Android smartphones, 5000 mAh batteries do not make such an impression anymore. More and more devices are equipped with such or even larger cells, and in my iPhone 11 there is quite a meager 3110 mAh (interestingly in the successor, the iPhone 12, we will only find 2815 mAh). Even the Max versions do not exceed 4000 mAh (3969 mAh & hairsp; – & hairsp; 11 Pro Max, 3687 & hairsp; – & hairsp; 12 Pro Max).
Apple may not have equipped its devices with the largest batteries, but they probably charge quickly, right? Well, not entirely either. My smartphone supports 18 W chargers, and the latest series can handle 20 W. Looking at the Android market, where 60 W is slowly becoming a standard in Chinese brands, you can feel a slight twinge of shame.
Before I go on to the next point, however, I have to mention one more element. Before buying an iPhone, I was convinced that all these disadvantages are more than compensated by the optimization and quality of the cells, so that my iPhone 11 will retain the initial working time for many months. It is also not so colorful here. I bought a phone from August and until December I had no problems with the working time, but then the battery condition began to drop suddenly and is now 90 percent.
At this point, I will add that I used Apple’s remote diagnosis and my battery is fine, and I should go to the service when the link drops below 80 percent. Well, this battery is a bit weak.
Fast screen refresh, camera pro modes …
This is not the end of my stream of words caused by envy towards Android devices. By regularly testing new products with this system, I can see where it is going and what it offers. I could even write a few paragraphs about foldable devices, but such smartphones are also a curiosity for many fans of the Google system, so I will skip this element.
However, I can not give up the fact that Apple has overslept again and forgot to introduce faster screen refresh to its devices. I know that it is already in iPads and is to appear in iPhones with the number 13, but neither my device nor any of the representatives of the current generation have this function.
Out of curiosity, I looked at the offer of one of the Polish electronics stores and the cheapest Android smartphone with more screen refresh is the Samsung Galaxy M12 (90 Hz), which costs PLN 769!
I also look with some envy at more and more advanced cameras in competition equipment. Xiaomi combines with a liquid lens, several manufacturers take part in the race for the most absurd ZOOM on the phone, and vivo shows a gimbal on the smartphone.
Even Sharp, which is rather unknown in our company for the production of smartphones, has recently surprised by showing a phone with a 1-inch matrix. Meanwhile, Apple is constantly refining what has already been and it’s rather hard to accuse it of innovation.
For me, however, the most important thing is that the iPhones still lack a real professional mode. A great example is the longer exposure option. It is true that there is a night mode that imitates it, but it shows only when the phone itself decides that it is needed. What’s more, if my 11th finds that it is not dark enough yet, I will only be able to use 3-, 5-, 6-second exposure. Only when the light sensor stops receiving almost anything, will I be able to increase this time to 10 seconds.
Don’t get me wrong, iPhones take a great photo in auto mode. I myself praise the 11th’s photographic capabilities and know that in most cases this model will not disappoint me. Sometimes, however, I would like to get something more from this smartphone, play with the settings a bit and try to capture at least half as well the night sky as Pixels do. The only chance for a substitute for such possibilities are other camera applications, and on Android it is standard and I can both spend long hours rummaging in the settings, and quickly capture a frame.
iPhone is a smartphone, and an Android smartphone is a computer?
Once upon a time I used the Lumia 950 and Continuum and it was quite a failed experience. Recently I had the pleasure of introducing the Motorola G100 and the ready for platform and it was much better here. In a nutshell, let me just say that using this solution, I wrote the entire text on the blog without any problems.
You may have a different opinion, but iPhones seem to be the perfect hardware to work in this mode. They have a lot of power, good optimization and theoretical background in the form of iPadOS and MacOS systems. It has been said for some time now that apple tablets could get the system from computers, so why not be an additional option on smartphones as well? I assume that there is a lot of money behind it, which Apple does not want to get rid of, because such a solution could negatively affect the sale of iPads and Macs. However, this is another element where Android is at the forefront.
Maybe this is a bold vision, but in a few years a smartphone can be not only a phone, but also a full-fledged computer for many people. Motorola, Samsung and Huawei are already preparing for such a future, and probably other companies are also working on similar solutions. Apple, as it usually does, is growing at its own pace and does not seem to see potential development paths.
I like my iPhone, but …
Well, I like my iPhone 11 very much and appreciate it for many elements. I just look at the market, observe the competition and sometimes it makes me feel confused in my technological heart that what is standard in Android for 1000 zlotys does not go to Apple smartphones that cost many times more.
I would love to see the above functions in the new apple, even if in all their glory they would only go to the variants with the note Pro. Maybe I would even break the piggy bank to pay extra for such a model. But will an iPhone with such functions not be even more expensive?
