Hyundai will manufacture electric cars equipped with Samsung batteries

Samsung could partner with automaker Hyundai to supply batteries for electric car equipment. Negotiations between the two companies’ management are already at an advanced stage

Samsung Electronics Vice President Lee Jae-yong met with Chung Eui-sun, executive vice president of Hyundai Motor Group, at the Samsung SDI battery factory in Cheonan, Seoul. The meeting was also attended by senior managers of the two companies. According to information obtained from sources close to the two companies, the talks focused on state-of-the-art technologies for batteries and the stages of their development.

A Samsung spokesman said the new generation of solid-state batteries developed by the company were “stable and durable”, with South Koreans negotiating an extensive partnership with Hyundai to supply the product. Hyundai currently uses batteries supplied by LG Chem and SK Innovation in its electric cars.
