Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the first photos of the long-awaited medium-sized CUV IONIQ 5, the first IONIQ model to specialize exclusively in electric vehicles.
The IONIQ 5 will be the first vehicle built on the Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The innovative platform is designed exclusively for a new generation of battery-powered electric cars. Through it, Hyundai will start a new era of pure mobility.
The distinctive and experimental design of the IONIQ 5 provides a unique experience that drivers can only enjoy in electric cars of a specific design, allowing them to take full advantage of the electric drive. IONIQ 5 thus indicates a fundamental change in the approach to the design of electric vehicles.
IONIQ 5’s unique design elements include “parametric pixels”, the smallest units of digital imaging, as well as a focus on eco-friendly colors, materials and finishes that connects the analog to digital world, enhancing IONIQ’s timeless design.
The bow of the IONIQ 5 is decorated with rows of pixels-inspired lights that embody the digital technologies used. The IONIQ 5 is also the first Hyundai model with a shell-shaped hood that spans the entire width of the car. The result is minimal joints between the body panels and a clean overall modern look.
The aerodynamically optimized wheels also repeat the design motif of parametric pixels and will be offered with an extremely large diameter of 20 inches. These are historically the largest wheels in the equipment of the Hyundai electric car. The wheels, specifically designed for Hyundai’s new electric car layout, complete the IONIQ 5’s perfect proportions.
“IONIQ 5 presents a whole new customer experience through an innovative electric car design, evoking the icon that founded Hyundai’s DNA design,” said SangYup Lee, vice president and head of Hyundai’s global design center. “The interior makes maximum use of environmentally friendly materials to provide consumers with the latest advanced, environmentally friendly mobility solutions. IONIQ 5 is the first model in our special electric car brand to define the relationship between people and their vehicles. At the same time, it sets new standards. , according to which all design experiences in the category of electric cars will be gradually measured. “
Hyundai Motor is also publishing four trailer videos at the same time, the aim of which is to arouse even greater interest in the new model. Each of them provides viewers with a glimpse into the key technologies of the IONIQ 5. The manufacturer thus raises expectations in relation to its special brand of electric cars and its first model.
The three videos are on the topic of “perfect camping” and show campers using various electrical devices powered by VONL (Vehicle to Load) technology of the IONIQ 5 model. This function serves as a universally usable source of electricity (110 V / 220 V). The camper uses a 3.5 kW V2L power supply in each video. IONIQ 5 allows him to roast a turkey in a large oven or run on a treadmill – all right at the campsite.
The fourth video, entitled “Five-Minute Challenge”, highlights the IONIQ 5’s ultra-fast charging capability, which allows it to travel more than 100 km in just 5 minutes of charging. The trailer shows this exceptional performance in a special challenge. IONIQ 5 compares itself with three devices – a smartphone, a laptop and a camera for action shots. Each device was charged for 5 minutes, and then it was monitored which of them lasted the longest.
These videos are just the beginning. Hyundai Motor plans to publish other interesting contributions. Their focus will be on other lifestyle enhancement options that IONIQ 5 will bring to its users.
Hyundai Motor will present the IONIQ 5 model in February 2021. Its premiere will be available through an extensive presentation on the Internet.
