Hyundai i20 (2023): affordable petrol car that is not yet doomed

The Volkswagen Polo is also in danger of disappearing. This has to do with the Euro 7 emission standard. As a result, petrol cars must meet stricter emission requirements. And that entails the necessary investments. The question is whether this still pays off for car manufacturers now that the EU wants us all to drive electrically. The profit margin on compact cars is not large anyway. (Text continues below the photos.)

Hyundai doesn’t worry about it

Unlike the aforementioned car brands, Hyundai does not worry about sending its affordable petrol models to the eternal hunting grounds. It has recently updated the Hyundai i10 and now it is the turn of the somewhat larger, but still affordable Hyundai i20.

Look three times

You have to look three times before you see what’s new on the Hyundai i20, so we give you a helping hand:

• Newly drawn front bumper and grille
• Modified rear bumper and Z-shaped LED taillights
• Adapted design for the 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels
• Three new body colors: Lucid Lime Metallic, Lumen Gray Pearl and Meta Blue Pearl

Fresh appearance

The Hyundai i20 actually still looks almost the same as before. We have no problem with that. We think the Hyundai i20 is a nice car, a fresh appearance between safer-lined models such as the aforementioned Volkswagen Polo, which is more successful.

The interior of the Hyundai i20 is now equipped with a 4.2-inch LCD instrument cluster (a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is optional), a C-USB port and you get over-the-air map updates if you select navigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available on the Hyundai i20.

With the new Hyundai i20 you get the choice of two petrol engines:

• 1,2-liter met 84 pk
• 1,0-liter turbomotor met 100 of 120 pk (mild hybrid)

Hyundai i20: prices

Hyundai is not yet making any statements about the prices of the new Hyundai i20, which will follow later. Know that the current Hyundai i20 starts at 22,095 euros and the new one will probably be a bit more expensive. Production will begin in the third quarter of 2023.
