Hyundai has recreated the Pony Coupe Concept, signed by Giorgetto Giugiaro

Almost 40 years after its debut at the Turin Motor Show, the Pony Coupe Concept, one of Hyundai’s most iconic prototypes returns to Italy.

Rebuilt by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the “father” of the original prototype, the Pony Coupe Concept will present itself on Saturday 20 May on the shores of Lake Como, on the sidelines of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

The global economic crisis in the 1970s did not offer much scope for a stylish sports car, and the Korean company in 1975 introduced the Pony, Hyundai’s first mass-produced car as an independent manufacturer.

The production model was a small four-door liftback, with the Pony Coupe Concept introduced in 1974 influencing Hyundai’s design language in other areas.

The “new” Pony Coupe Concept features a minimalist interior with a special attention to style, featuring non-traditional gauges and a single-spoke steering wheel.

The prototype has a length of 4.08 meters, a width of 1.56 meters, a height of 1.21 meters, a wheelbase of 2.34 meters and under its hood we find a 1,238 cc four-cylinder engine with an output of 82 hp at 6,000 rpm , which sends the drive to the rear wheels.
