Hyundai Bayon, the Korean crossover is shown in the official teasers

The debut of the Hyundai Bayon is now close. The South Korean house has released new teasers that show the shapes of the crossover that can be seen between the play of shadows and lights. The impression is that the Bayon will take up some stylistic elements of the Kona and the i20 with fresh and innovative lines.

Bold design based on the i20

Alongside the new images, Hyundai has made a statement: the Bayon will incorporate the “Sensuous Sportiness” style that combines “emotions and innovative design solutions”. The front of the Bayon features a slim bezel that combines the LED headlights which makes the car appear wider and with a distinctive look.

In the rear, on the other hand, the arrow-shaped optical groups stand out joined by a red LED bar. Also in this case, the designers’ goal is to guarantee a sportier visual imprint.

The Bayon will be related to the i20 from which it will inherit the base platform. The solutions regarding the passenger compartment and the engines will also be shared. The first spy photos of the passenger compartment of the small crossover showed a digital instrumentation and a dashboard rather similar to the i20.

As powertrains, we expect confirmation of the three-cylinder (also mild-hybrid), front-wheel drive and a manual or automatic dual-clutch transmission.

The challenge to Ford and Volkswagen

Hyundai has confirmed that the Bayon will be available by the first half of 2021. We therefore expect more information on prices and fittings soon. The name of the new model is inspired by the French city of Bayonne and from here you can already understand how important the car will be for the European market.

The crossover will compete in the B segment and will therefore rival Ford Puma, Volkswagen T-Cross, Seat Arona and Peugeot 2008.
