Suara.com – The Riau Provincial Government continues to support business actors and planters to produce environmentally friendly palm oil in accordance with applicable regulations through the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification.
“In addition to environmentally friendly production, ISPO also includes a business system in the field of oil palm plantations that is economically viable, socially feasible. This provision is in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 44 of 2020, it is hoped that ISPO certification governance will be better,” said Head of the Riau Province Disbun, Ir Zulfadli.
He explained that the Riau Province Plantation Service (Disbun) noted that there were 396 palm oil companies in their area. However, only 121 companies or 30 percent have been certified ISPO.
Meanwhile, 110 KUDs have carried out replanting and all of them have the potential to take care of ISPO certification so that their products meet the requirements of being environmentally friendly, economically viable and socially viable.
“Several efforts have been made by the Riau Provincial Government, including a letter from the Governor of Riau to regional heads in Riau regarding the fulfillment of the obligation to obtain ISPO certification for companies as well as for planters,” he said.
Besides that, Riau Province also has a Regional Action Plan for Sustainable Oil Palm Plantations (RAD-KSB) which has been issued under Governor Regulation No. 9 of 2022. In the fifth component, it is about accelerating the implementation of ISPO certification and increasing market access for palm products.
Programs and activities compiled in the Riau Province RAD-KSB in 2022-2024 are expected to accelerate ISPO certification.
“We really hope for the support and participation of all parties, including the private sector and the ISPO Certification Institute to support the Fifth component of the RAD-KSB. One of them is what PT. TSI International Certification has done,” he said.
He mentioned that Riau’s CPO production in 2019 according to the Central Statistics Agency (2020) was 7.73 million tons from 47.18 million tons nationwide, so that Riau’s palm oil contribution to the national level was 21.65 percent.
“Therefore, planters and business actors in Riau’s oil palm plantations must optimally manage ISPO to create a prosperous and prosperous Riau,” he concluded.
