An avalanche under Kondrat’s Kick overturned three Polish ski mountaineers in the late hours of Saturday.
An avalanche under Kondrat’s Kick in the Western Tatras on Saturday (February 13) in the late hours of the night tore down three Polish ski mountaineers. The two did not survive. The mountain rescue service on its own informed about it on Sunday website.
Information about the release of the avalanche, which was to take down the trio of ski alpinists, was received by mountain rescuers through their emergency call operation center. One of them managed to dig himself out and then contact the well-known and Polish rescuers TOPR with a request for help. “Consequently, it was not possible to contact the whistleblower by telephone due to a bad signal in the given area. Professional and volunteer emergency rescuers from the Western and High Tatras, the Avalanche Prevention Center and dog handlers immediately went to the site, “ said mountain rescuers.
Rescuers did not find the whistleblower, but while searching the avalanche, they discovered a pair of avalanche-torn avalanches with avalanches. They then searched for the third in the group, but without success. “During the search for the HZS Emergency Call Operations Center, Polish colleagues from TOPR contacted that the wanted man had meanwhile crossed the ridge to the Polish side and was in a cottage on Hala Kondratowa. He was without serious injuries, only slightly hypothermic, “ approached HZS.
According to him, the man was also covered with an avalanche, but he managed to free himself from the snow and then tried to find friends with an avalanche finder, but without success.
Mountain rescuers transported the bodies of ski alpinists to Liptovský Hrádok, where they handed them over to members of the Slovak Police. The rescue operation ended in the early morning hours. The identity of the ski alpinists is ascertained by members of the police.
