Huawei P50: possible choice of operating system at startup

January 12, 2021

Very hot period for Huawei than with the line P50 will make its presence felt in the first half of 2021. The basic variant will be accompanied by the P50 Pro and the Huawei P50 Pro Plus, all however will have the same Kirin 9000 SoC presented last year and also used on the Mate 40 family.

Today, however, we are talking about software and not hardware. With the ever-present ban on not using Google services, one wonders how it will proceed with the P50 now that the Chinese company has completed the development of its Harmony OS.

Well, the news that stands out today is that the P50s sold in China will only be equipped with Hongmeng OS while those sold in Europe will be equipped with both Android (without Google Apps) and Harmony OS. For the oriental version there are no problems, single operating system and the absence of Google applications are a totally negligible issue.

For the European version, on the other hand, the path of making the user decide which operating system to start could be chosen. Obviously this is an opportunity for Huawei to make its OS known also in the West but it is also true that in our part, using Android is now a custom. And not just on smartphones. But there is another hypothesis and it would be that Huawei decides to distribute P50s equipped with Harmony OS or Android, based on the country of destination. We imagine that in this case it would cross the usage and sales data of its products.

The launch of the Huawei P50 lineup will take place during the first half of 2021 and there is frequent talk of May / June. Furthermore, the best-selling model, which we talked about here, may be missing for now.
