HP printers started blocking non-original cartridges after updating

Previously, the system simply warned about the use of a third-party cartridge. After the last update, users report that the device refuses to print documents at all.

The Dynamic Security protection system detects the presence of an original ink cartridge in HP printers. According to the manufacturer, it was introduced in 2016, but only activated with the latest software update. After the update, users found that the devices stopped working, and a message appeared on the screen asking them to insert the original cartridge.

Original inks cost twice as much, so many users prefer more affordable third-party options. In response to owner criticism on social media, HP said the update is intended to reduce the risk of malware attacks, as “Third-party cartridges using third-party chips or circuitry may pose a threat to hardware performance, print quality, and security.”

If you have an HP printer, you can bypass the blocking in the following way. You need to find the automatic software update item and disable it. You can find the option through the device menu or in the driver settings on your PC. Otherwise, you will have to look for a wizard that can roll back the update or disable Dynamic Security protection.
