From the beginning of November, the amendment to the Labor Code (ZP) will reduce the administrative burden for employers, as it will not be necessary to conclude an agreement with employees on deduction from wages in cases such as unaccounted advances for the employer’s allowance for meals or for purpose-linked financial allowance for meals.

Cards instead of meal tickets

From the new year, another part of the ZP amendment will enter into force, according to which meal vouchers will be mainly issued on electronic cards. On Tuesday, the chairman of the Association of Modern Benefits (AMOBE) Štefan Petrík drew attention to this.

However, paper meal tickets do not end, the said digitization will be gradual. According to the association, each gastro subject will have enough time to prepare and will have the support of association members.

Electronic cards will make benefits available to employees. According to the association, this can be an opportunity for the gastro sector to gain new and former customers.

An increase in food allowance?

At the same time, the association supports the reduction of value added tax for this segment to 10%. Slovaks have reduced the frequency of visits to restaurants due to rising prices.

Increasing the meal allowance is essential for Slovaks. More than nine out of ten respondents (92%) consider it important that the food allowance should be continuously increased. A small group does not consider it a priority (7.6%).

For two-thirds (66%) of Slovaks, increasing the meal price is also a motivation to increase the frequency of meals in restaurants that offer a menu. The association informed about this based on an online survey conducted by the survey agency Dicio Marketing on a sample of 1,086 respondents aged 25 to 65 throughout the Slovak Republic from June 3 to 15 of this year.
