Scab is a fungal disease of trees, which manifests itself in the appearance of brown spots on various parts of the plant and in the deformation of fruits. The most common scab is apple and pear, although sometimes other trees are affected. The fungus does not make the fruits toxic, but greatly reduces the yield of the garden, as the weight and number of fruits decreases.

How to spray trees from scab – chemicals

Chemical preparations are most effective against scabies, but they must be used strictly according to the instructions. Do not exceed the concentration of the drug, otherwise it will penetrate the fruits of the trees.

The following are considered the most effective against scabies fungicides, such as Fitospirin, Thiovid, Skor, Ridomil, Hom, Nitrafen, Zineb, Bordeaux mixture and others. Usually the drug should be diluted with water.

Spring processing apple trees from scab are carried out after the flowers fall. In the summer, the garden is sprayed against infection approximately once every 15-20 days. If the summer turned out to be rainy, then the treatments should be carried out more often, since scab loves wet weather and grows quickly.

Tree treatment should be stopped 30 days before the expected harvest date. And after harvesting, spray the garden again. Also, till the ground under the trees to kill the infection.

How else can you help the tree

Combine spraying of trees against scab with pruning of diseased branches. Cut the branches with the most diseased fruits and leaves. Regularly remove fallen fruits and leaves affected by the fungus from the ground, as they carry the infection.

How to prevent the appearance of scabies – preventive measures

If your garden is often affected by scab, then it will have to be removed every year. But there are ways to reduce the likelihood of the disease in the future.

To do this, you can plant in the garden special varieties of trees, which are immune to scab. Resistance to this disease is determined genetically. Breeders artificially breed fruit varieties that are not afraid of this fungus.

It is also a must in autumn remove fallen leaves and fruits away from the garden, since the infection lives and winters on them, and in the spring “relocates” back to the trees.

When planting a garden do not plant the same species of trees next to each other. Each tree is affected by a different type of scab.

Another method of prevention – sparse planting of trees. Keep a distance of at least 5 meters between the seedlings, and they will be less likely to infect each other with scab.
