Reset Chromecast in 4 steps
Is your Chromecast running into an inexplicable problem? Has an app recently stopped working properly, or have you recently tinkered with your WiFi network and is the picture bad? There can be countless reasons why you might want to reset your Chromecast. Follow the directions below if you want to start fresh.
How to reset a Chromecast:
- Turn on your Chromecast and go to the correct HDMI channel on your TV;
- Press and hold the elongated reset button on the back of the Chromecast;
- The light on the Chromecast will now flash orange. Press and hold the reset button until the light turns white again;
- The installation process will restart on your TV screen.
From now on you can reinstall the Chromecast. Please note that the HDMI dongle will forget all settings. So you have to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and reconnect any apps. It is therefore better to reset a Chromecast only if other solutions did not help.
You can also reset a Chromecast through the Google Home app. This option is useful, for example, if you cannot easily reach the device itself. To do this, open the Google Home app on your Android smartphone and tap your Chromecast. Then choose the gear icon and select the three dots. Then tap ‘Reset to factory settings’ and confirm your order.
