There is a very useful little trick that could make Xbox gamers happy. The new controller is able to switch in a few seconds from one device to another.
Microsoft does not always know how to promote the features of its products. As proof, we have just discovered a specific feature of the controller marketed with the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X controller. The accessory is capable of memorizing several devices at the same time, which means that we can easily switch from to each other without having to get lost in Bluetooth settings every time.
This trick, little known until then, was provided by Timo Wolf, Microsoft employee, in a tweet posted on February 8. He specifies that no official document explains how it works. On the presentation page of the Xbox controller, just can we read: ” Easily pair and switch between devices including Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, and Android devices “. Numerama was able to test and validate this hidden feature, which will appeal to those who love to enjoy Xbox Game Pass on multiple devices.

How to easily switch from one device to another with your Xbox controller?
Concretely, the Xbox controller can keep in memory a console and the last device – PC or Android – to which it connected. For example, you could very well start part of Gears 5 on your Xbox Series X and continue it on an Android tablet – thanks to Game Pass – with the same controller, without having to synchronize the said controller with your tablet again.
After you link your controller to your Xbox and your other device, you just need to:
- Double click on the pairing button to connect the controller to the Xbox;
- Keep pressing the pairing button to connect the controller to the other device (the last one used if your controller is linked to several devices).
When you turn your controller back on, it will be connected to the last platform you used (the Xbox console does not have priority over others). Note that if you start a game on a PC or smartphone before continuing on the console, pressing the pairing button twice will turn on your Xbox. This is another tip.
As Timo Wolf specifies, this feature is not compatible with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. Numerama can also confirm that only new controllers are affected. We tried with an Elite Series 2 pad and unfortunately the trick didn’t work.
