A few tricks (maybe not tricks, because it is not secret knowledge, but we forget about it in the multitude of matters) in this direction I will show on the example of the most popular e-mail in Poland – on Gmail.
We actually have two addresses on Gmail
We cannot use traditional email aliases on Gmail, such as in Outlook, but not everyone knows that our account has two addresses assigned to it. I found out about it 5 years ago, and I have been using this e-mail for over a dozen years.
Well, in addition to the basic e-mail address – username @gmail.com, we can also use the second username @googlemail.com. If you have never used the other address before, you can now use it for some very important correspondence or with a specific person and filter it out from the main mail folder.
How? The easiest way to redirect it to a separate tab. The default Gmail layout looks like the above, so we have five tabs, where general mail lands, notifications from various services or stores and the last Forums – Google has never assigned any mail to me, so it is unused.
So we can “hire” her to receive mail to this new address, using the filter tool.
In case you do not look at other categories of mail, you can turn them off in the mailbox settings and leave only these two tabs.
Labels on Gmail to help filter out mail
What if we want to clear the main inbox of more less important messages? Just use the labels. We can create an endless number of them depending on the needs. It can be a filter for newsletters, notifications from Facebook, Twitter or other specific services.
When creating a filter, it is enough to select the option to skip the inbox and indicate the label under which we should write on our mail. This is how we will filter our inbox.
Change the default mail layout in Gmail
This sorting of mail requires a lot of effort, so if we do not have time for it, we can simply change the default mail display mode to make it easier to read and segregate.
To do this, in the view settings, we change the display of the mailbox to – Multiple inboxes and name it whatever, for example as in the screenshot above.
In the general settings of Gmail, we must activate the tags assigned to each mailbox beforehand.
Then mark each incoming correspondence with an appropriate asterisk, which will automatically sort it into the appropriate boxes. Finally, we archive all mail in the main mailbox, leaving it empty while we wait for more messages. It’s very convenient and transparent in using Gmail, he has been using this setting himself for many months on my main private Gmail inbox – it’s my little Inbox Zero.
