How to display charging stations for electric vehicles on Waze

Announced in mid-March 2023, the display of charging stations in Waze is now effective, as of May 16, 2023. If you have an electric car, you can now configure the application to find charging stations at proximity. The software will use your location to come up with a list of multiple entries. Seven takes are considered to filter the results.

• Launch the Waze app on your phone;
• Tap “My Waze” at the bottom of the screen to display the side panel;
• Click on the toothed wheel at the top left of the menu;
• Go to the “Vehicle Info” line;
• Choose “Electric vehicles”;
• Activate “Favor EV charging”;
• Select plugs that are compatible;
• Return to Home and tap “Where are you going?” » ;

You will then see a new line called “charging stations”, which replaces the one called “gas stations”. The application displays all the stations that are nearby, based on the sockets you have given it (are supported: CCS1, CCS2, CHAdeMO, GB/T, Tesla (North America), J1772, Type 2 – Mennekes).

Waze uses your geolocation to display the charging stations closest to your location. In the case of a display in Paris, the application returned several results within a radius of less than 3 km. However, this radius can vary: if you are in open country, Waze will have to extend its results to stations located much further away.

According to government accounts, there are 100,000 electric terminals throughout the country — an objective achieved two years late. If the network appears to be well developed today, electric cars in the car fleet remain largely in the minority: 1% of the vehicle fleet as of January 1, 2021. However, it is a growing park.
