The majority of Russians consider an average income of 74.9 thousand rubles per month to be sufficient to make them feel financially independent, a study by Sberbank Life Insurance has shown. The respondents believe that for this amount they will be able to fully meet their needs, the availability of housing and the ability to travel.

Muscovites need the most money in order to feel financially independent – they called a sufficient amount of 104.4 thousand rubles a month, residents of St. Petersburg turned out to be a little more modest – 98.5 thousand rubles were enough for them, in Vladivostok the figure was 92.7 thousand rubles, writes RBC with reference to a study by IC Sberbank Life Insurance.
However, it is not only the salary that matters. 33% of the respondents named savings as an important factor in the financial independence. Muscovites will feel calm with 6.39 million rubles on their account, residents of Kemerovo – from 4.2 million rubles, St. Petersburg – from 4.12 million rubles. The national average is 3.4 million rubles.
It is noteworthy that, depending on the age, the respondents’ methods of gaining financial independence also vary. Thus, the respondents aged 18 to 30 are mostly counting on their own business (50%) and renting out real estate (42%). Russians aged 30-40 consider savings as an important factor (43%). The older generation, aged 50 to 60, believe that a sufficient income can only be earned through a salary (89%).
74% of residents of Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok noted that they have already achieved financial independence.
The study was conducted in 37 cities with a population of over 500 thousand people in a sample reflecting the socio-demographic composition of the urban population.
