How 3D printing is doing in Czech companies

Metal-print-made-by-laser-welding-from-wire-to-3D-printers-Meltio-2152At first glance, the Czechia is slightly above the European average in terms of the use of 3D printing in companies. On the other hand, we see that, for example, in Western and Northern Europe, additive production is often used much more widely and in depth, with more advanced technologies and materials. However, in order not to guess how 3D printers are actually used and how satisfied they are with them in companies, we can look into a new, original survey directly from Central European countries.

It brings a comprehensive view of the experience of professional users and current trends.

A survey prepared by the B-inside agency, whose partners are Admasys International, resp. Czechia, 3Dwiser, is available free of charge at 3dwiser.com/pruzkum. It deals with the 3D printing market in the world and in EU countries, but also with the specific experience of users and Central European companies, including the personal knowledge of top managers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. He reveals, among other things, that although Denmark, Malta and Germany are leading the use of 3D printing in the EU, the Czechia is also above the EU27 average.

“The survey shows a number of trends and confirms that where they have already invested in additive production, they are more than satisfied with the results. They already know that 3D printing in industry is not a toy or an expensive bait, but above all a handy and versatile tool that pays off – and returns very quickly when judiciously deployed. Differences from country to country are also seen. For example, how significantly 3D printing has expanded in the largest Czech industrial companies in the last two years, “ pointed out one of the interesting trends Tomáš Soóky from the company 3Dwiser.

Where 3D printing already serves, where they still hesitate, what are the arguments

Straight in 8 out of 10 companies where they already have 3D printers, they use them intensively. Representatives of most of these companies replied that they plan to further expand the use of 3D printing. They know its advantages, they can assess them against risks, they already know how quickly the necessary investment can return to them. For example, 93% of companies that already use external 3D printing suppliers also said in a survey that they were going to buy their own 3D printers. This is contrasted by the attitude of companies that are still hesitant about additive production. On the contrary, they want to print 3D first through external suppliers.

“The main advantage for us is that 3D printing is faster and cheaper than other production methods. And for some specific complex parts, 3D printing is the only way to make them. Production in any other way is unimaginable. “ Gábor Zai, a specialist in Technoplast Group Kft.

If we stick to engineering and production, in addition to prototypes, functional and finished parts are increasingly being printed. From the spare and supporting ones for production to the components that are used in further sold production machines, etc. Although this may sometimes work in the Czech Republic, it has long been printed only from basic thermoplastics. Print requirements are much higher today than they were a few years ago.

“3D printing definitely pays off. Both in terms of the cost of the printed part itself and in terms of machine hours savings. In the event of a production line failure, we are able to produce spare parts, so downtime is much shorter and costs are lower, ” připomněl v průzkumu Martin Stričko z farmaceutické společnosti Zentiva.
