Fortunately, the package is complete

Honor has not yet jumped on the green wave and the packaging of its currently most expensive phone on our market is fortunately completely complete. In addition to the device itself, you also get a complete charger, i.e. both an adapter and a USB-A / USB-C cable, and the manufacturer did not forget to include a practical, silicone case. Of course, the necessary literature and a pin to open the SIM slot are not missing.

Elegant with a proper backpack

The Honor Magic 5 Pro bets primarily on an elegant design dominated by a circular photo module on the back. The manufacturer named this ring module the Star Ring and, according to their words, pays tribute to the architect Antoni Gaudí with it, which is definitely a commendable feat. The fact is that Honor’s new flagship is a hell of an attractive phone, and that’s especially true of the light green variant we had for testing. In the black design, this circular platform fits in a bit, but in green, on the other hand, it is quite distinctive and dominates the entire phone.

The photo module protrudes really enormously from the chassis, but it rises from it gradually and, in the end, does not fundamentally interfere with handling the device. On the contrary, you can rest your finger on it when holding it, so even though the Magic 5 Pro is quite far from compact, it is generally pleasant to operate in the hand. The display with rounding on all four sides is definitely to blame for this. Although the bend in the upper and lower parts is rather symbolic and significantly less pronounced than on the sides, this symmetrical concept is quite interesting and sympathetic.

No worries about water or fingerprints

The construction combines an aluminum frame with a glass back, which, in the case of the green version, has a matte surface finish and is excellent at resisting fingerprints and similar dirt. The increased resistance according to the IP68 standard was not forgotten either, so you don’t have to worry about dusty environments or sudden rain, the Honor Magic 5 Pro will handle it just fine. The breast fingerprint sensor is integrated directly into the display, it is fast, accurate and there was more or less no problem with it. For design, processing and feeling when holding, this flag has a clear number one with an asterisk from us.

Best display today?

And it also has a display. It is, according to the DxOMark server, the best among all current phones, and I can easily agree with that. On the front, there is a 6.81-inch OLED panel with LTPO technology, a maximum frequency of up to 120 Hz and a resolution of 2848 × 1312 pixels. Thanks to such a high resolution, the image achieves a great sharpness of 460 ppi, and the resolution itself can be set in four modes – 2848 × 1312 pixels, 2492 × 1148 pixels, 2136 × 984 pixels, or leave it to the phone, which can reduce the resolution if necessary (Smart Resolution feature).

It is also possible to set the refresh rate and again you will have four options available. You can have a fixed frequency of 60, 90 or 120 Hz, or leave it to the phone and it will adjust it according to what is happening on the display. Since the phone is proud of the LTPO panel, it should be able to correct the frequency in its entire range, i.e. from 1 to 120 Hz. It is also worth mentioning the options for setting the display in the form of two modes (Normal / Vivid) in combination with manual color temperature adjustment.

The display is simply beautiful

Readability is also problem-free in the sun

The display has official HRD10+ certification, boasts 10-bit colors, supports the DCI-P3 color space and, of course, sRGB. If there’s something really worth pointing out, it’s the top brightness, which can reach up to 1,800 nits and that means absolutely trouble-free readability in all conditions.

The brightness control works perfectly

The automatic brightness control works very well, it reacts quickly to changes in the ambient light and is able to choose the appropriate brightness level for the best possible readability every time. All around, this is one of the best displays out there today.
