A renovation of a high-rise building at Dalaplan in Malmö has started at a rapid pace after it was discovered that the facade tiles on the building are extremely flammable, reports Kvällsposten.
The high-rise building has had the flammable material in the façade since it was inaugurated in 2014, but it was only after an inspection this year that the discovery was made. The renovation therefore started last Friday.
The emergency renovation is praised by Ville Bexander, fire engineer and expert in building technical fire protection at the Fire Protection Association.
– Those who act do the right thing. It is a serious gamble and it is positive that you understand the danger and take action. We urge this even if it is costly, Bexander tells the newspaper.
He points to the fire disaster in London 2017, where 72 people died in Grenfell Tower as an example of what can happen if measures are not taken when flammable material is found in the construction of a high-rise building.
