Competition between banks in the digital space is intensifying, which banks will be the winners in the digital age? This will also be discussed at the Portfolio’s Financial IT Conference on May 31st. Register here!
Since last year, we’ve made several mobile banking rankings based on Google Play and App Store ratings, but we’ve made minor methodological changes to Google Play that make it even more accurate to compare individual mobile banking tabs. At the same time, it also means that we cannot use the data collected so far for comparison, ie we can only re-examine the changes in the ratings and rankings in our next article.
There were several other important changes in compiling the ranking.
- OTP Bank launched the previous version of its retail mobile app, Smartbank, on March 24, so we also removed Smartbank from our ranking. The bank started testing the new mobile bank last year, then it was gradually introduced, but in the end the exit of Smartbank was still postponed for a few weeks. This was originally planned for the beginning of March, but the application was still used by too many people, so the bank decided to postpone it. You can still register for the new digital service from Smartbank, but you will no longer be able to start a new Smartbank registration.
- Through the merger of MKB and Budapest Bank, Budapest Bank’s mobile bank was rebranded. As Ildikó Ginzer, Deputy Chief Business Officer for Magyar Bankholdig Standard Services, told our newspaper, after the merger, all customers will be able to access and use their usual mobile app or internet application; the functions known so far will not change. A rebranding will take place on Budapest Bank’s existing Internet and mobile banking, and customers will come across new logos and brands. The renamed mobile bank is also included in our ranking, but we indicate that it is already an MKB mobile app.
- As Revolut already has a customer base of 500,000 in Hungary, although the valuation of a bank with a fintech background and a universal large bank is not fully comparable, we are interestingly including the valuation of Revolut in our ranking.
Let’s see the lists!
At the top of our recent Android and iPhone rankings is the debut Revolut mobile app: In the case of the former, he is alone in the lead with the app of MKB ex BB (Budapest Bank) with a rating of 4.8, and in the latter ranking with 4.9 stars.
