Few know, but Tihany’s historical past goes far back than we learned about it at school, according to a book just published. One of the most beautiful settlements in Hungary was built in antiquity and then inhabited by Romans, who did not attribute healing power to a natural phenomenon. And the most amazing thing is that we can visit these places to this day.
The Pelso Legend draws attention to the Balaton Uplands, including Tihany, its natural beauties, rich history and, last but not least, its healing power.
“The Celts have proven to live in the Transdanubia, including the area around Lake Balaton. Traces of earthen fortresses can also be found in Zánká and Tihany, which we also attribute to the Celts, ”says the author of the book, Zsigmond Tömösváry. But what does the special title mean?
“Pelso is the Latin name for Lake Balaton used by the Romans, and the legend originated in Roman times and perhaps covers an event that took place at the time. True, posterity only learned of it from a record that came from the legacy of Roman Cardinal Basilios Bressarion.
Tihany was still an island for most of antiquity, which was only converted into a peninsula much later. The demarcated area was inhabited by several tribes until the conquest: in addition to the Celts, Illyrians and Avars also settled here, but the area was also popular with the Romans.
The settlement was once a volcano, today energy lines run through it
However, if we look at the origin of the healing effect, it is worth going back to the early part of the earth’s history: at that time Tihany was still a volcanic area, which is reflected in the outer and inner lakes formed by the two craters and the geyser cones still visible today. These were mineral-rich, hot-water springs that laid cones over millennia and in some cases formed quite tall towers. The healing energy of Tihany is believed to be based in part on the surviving energies of volcanic forces.
However, there is another special feature of the settlement: here, too, the so-called St. George’s energy lines, which are formed by the earth’s magnetism, run through the entire globe. According to many scholars, the great societies of the past were built on these lines, such as the Pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, the dolmens of Europe, pedestrian stones, but also many famous Christian churches and cathedrals.
It is no coincidence that King Andrew I, the founder of the Tihany Abbey, and the monks of Kiev who came at the invitation of his wife settled here, who built rock flats here for themselves – these friendly flats can still be seen today.
“Ancient societies were more receptive to spirituality and used healing energies until the bigotry of medieval Christianity obscured much of the knowledge. The man of the present has rediscovered all that our ancestors have devoted to their benefit. Maybe spirituality, healing energies, positive consciousness are really experiencing a renaissance today, ”the writer adds.
