“This is a cap on advance invoices for DPI, not prices. We are currently working with the ERO on how to do this quickly. We want to help vulnerable families, but at the same time we must find the optimal boundaries, because the path is not to stay with DPI but suppliers, “said Havlíček.
According to Havlíček, standard suppliers will offer not only a better price, but also lower energy advances, by 30 to 60 percent. “In parallel, we are preparing extraordinary immediate assistance for households at risk of energy poverty, VAT remission and remission of payments for renewable sources,” Havlíček said.
“Since we approached the setting of backups in the DPI mode responsibly and tried to keep them as low as possible, we do not perceive that clients in the DPI mode would contact us to an increased extent due to high energy backups,” E.ON spokeswoman Martina Martin told ČTK. Slavíková.
According to her, it is necessary to pay the deposit, because as a result it protects the clients themselves from high arrears during the final billing. The solution may be to switch to a regular acquisition tariff. “We recommend clients not to stay in the DPI mode for too long and switch to a standard product, where they will have stable prices for a fixed period and also advances spread over one year, and therefore lower than in the DPI mode,” added Slavíková.
Havlíček has previously stated that about a tenth of Czech households at risk of energy poverty due to rising energy prices will be entitled to one-off benefits. According to the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Jana Maláčová (ČSSD), however, this is not possible and the solution must be proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Because of this, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) asks Maláčová to convene a government meeting.
The 72-year-old woman from Svitavy received a letter from DPI innogy with a breakdown of gas advances in recent days. Innogy requires a monthly deposit of 14,110 crowns, with the first one for October to be paid by Sunday 31 October. Until recently, it paid an advance to Bohemia Energy in the amount of CZK 3,000. Her pension, including her widow’s, is about 18,000 crowns. It is to receive an advance breakdown from ČEZ Prodej, which is its DPI for electricity. So far, Bohemia Energy has paid 900 crowns a month for it, and according to the price list for DPI, the deposit for October will be about 4,000 crowns higher.
Around 900,000 customers of the Bohemia Energy energy group, which ceased operations in mid-October, must look for a new energy supplier. Other companies with thousands of customers also announced the termination of their activities. They are then taken over by other companies, the so-called suppliers of last resort, and for many people energy advances have multiplied due to this. Roughly ten percent of households that could be at risk of so-called energy poverty will be entitled to emergency immediate assistance, Havlíček said. According to him, it could affect 400,000 to 500,000 households.
The Ministry of Industry and the ERO recommend that people switch from a supplier of last resort to a standard energy supplier as soon as possible. According to Havlíček, they will have a better price or they can better solve individual problems, for example through repayment calendars.
