Hankook Ventus Race Continues to Support International ‘Srikandi’ Racers

DAPURPACU – Tire manufacturer Hankook Tire has been the exclusive tire partner for the women-only formula car racing series, since the inaugural series of this championship was held in 2019.

The W Series itself is the only women’s race series in the world, which was announced in 2018 to give women the opportunity to gain experience and develop as drivers.

Sooil Lee, President and CEO of Hankook Tire & Technology, said that young female racers should establish themselves in the world of motorsport which is still dominated by men.

“We are delighted to be supporting the W Series again this year, now at the same level as F1. With the Ventus Race tyre, Hankook wants to help riders show their skills on the international stage.”

In 2021, the W Series is included in the Formula 1 support program and shares the agenda with the pinnacle of motor racing in eight weeks of Grand Prix, using Hankook’s high-end Ventus Race tires.

This week, the single-seater series enters the second half of the season which will take place at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Belgium.

Entering the second half of the 2021 season, Jamie Chadwick as the reigning champion still leads by one point at the top of the overall standings. His closest rival is his home country mate, Alice Powell.

The two British riders have shared wins throughout the four racing sessions. Both scored a win when the season started with a double-header at the Red Bull Ring, Austria, in June.

The 28-year-old Powell won the home race at Silverstone. At the end of the first season at the Hungaroring, his junior who was four years younger had climbed the top step of the podium.

Thanks to another score Chadwick is the better of the two, it is he who tops the overall standings. Third place winner, 36 points behind championship leader Nerea Marti of Spain.

After Spa-Francorchamps, the W Series cruised to Zandvoort, Netherlands, the following week. From there, the series continued to Austin, Texas, USA and Circuit of the Americas in October.

Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez hosted the final in Mexico. A total of 20 drivers drive a 270-hp Formula with identical chassis and engines.

Manfred Sandbichler, Hankook Motorsport Director Europe said, “The W Series has scored a real movement since the start of this series in Formula 1.

“During this time, the riders have learned a lot of things and continue to grow in each series. We are very proud to be able to contribute to this development with our racing tires.” [dp/MTH]
