Hallengren blames the municipalities and “decades of downgrading elderly care”

It was on Sunday SVT Agenda as the responsibility for so many elderly people dying in covid-19 was discussed.

But Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren did not want to take on the responsibility, or point out any other individual.

– It is not really as simple as pointing out who is in the individual or level. This is an activity for which the municipality has the main responsibility, but where the regions are absolutely crucial with their care knowledge, she said.

SVT’s host then pointed out that the Corona Commission clearly points out the current government and previous governments.

But Hallengren did not agree either.

– One can discuss whether it is clear whether it is current and previous governments that bear the responsibility. It is decades of not prioritizing elderly care enough, Hallengren replied.

According to the Minister of Social Affairs, her government has, on the contrary, invested in more resources and skills development, started to protect the title of assistant nurse, started work on a new elderly care law and more.
