Guides in incoming tourism Members of the Moreshet Derech demonstrate tomorrow in a protest encampment in front of the Ministry of Finance and the Knesset demonstration will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, July 6, 21 starting at 12:00.

This is a huge demonstration, one of the largest known to the tourism industry, and hundreds of incoming tourism guides and employees of the tourism industry are expected to participate.
The demonstration comes in light of the fact that from March 2020 the sky was closed to tourists, and in light of the fact that no logical economic outline has been presented so far that will address the entire population involved in the tourism industry, despite promises from politicians and finance officials.

Moreover, the main reason why we are going out to demonstrate is because the government has promised to produce a safe outline for landing tourists. Based on the promise, thousands of tourists were prepared to land here in Israel as early as the beginning of July, but the government violated its promise and decided rudely not to compensate those affected by this decision. At this point, the market is flooded with workers. Here we see that there is no orderly plan in our case.

We need a lifeline, the industry is drowning under the load of workers who are in the IDF and are also looking for a job that suits their skills.
Unfortunately, there is no progress and no orderly plan has yet been presented by the Treasury. We all hope that the members of the Finance Committee will continue to support us and find us an appropriate financial solution.

It is important to note that in the days when they were being repaired, the tourism industry was in sixth place in terms of revenue. In 2019, with the arrival in Israel of 4.6 million tourists, the highest number in the country, tourism brought in about NIS 23 billion.

Yoni Shapira, Chairman of the Moreshet Derech Association – Guides in Inbound Tourism: “We are quite tired of injecting responsibility between the various government ministries. The Ministry of Tourism presents a false picture that tourism has returned (only noted that only domestic tourism has returned not fully. Inbound tourism guides sit at home when all grants and unemployment are stopped without any alternative solution, which will leave many guides without the possibility of earning a decent living. “The tourists meet us and if that is how we are treated, it is a shame.”
