guest mode is back on connected speakers

Google is backing down. After removing the feature “Guest mode” of its connected speakers, the firm is reintroducing private browsing mode. Last October, in a statement, Google had already explained that it would be back soon and that it will offer even more privacy to its users. It is now possible to reuse it, but only on theEnglish-speaking assistant. To activate it, it will suffice to say ” Hey Google, turn on Guest Mode » or ” Ok Google, activate guest mode » in French. Concretely, this new tool makes it possible to deactivate the voice recording and to use the assistant in incognito mode on the brand’s products. It’s a bit like the private windows on web browsers. Search and voice data will therefore not appear on the session once the mode is deactivated. In its press release, Google explained “There are times when you might not want to save your interactions to your Google Account. “ The firm specifies, however, that it will have to be deactivated to enjoy a personalized experience of the assistant, such as access to the calendar for example.

More confidentiality

In 2019, voice assistants had all chosen to reverse their privacy policy. To improve their services, giants like Apple, Google or Amazon listened to fragments of conversations between voice assistants and users. The goal: to respond more effectively to requests. Quickly, each industry had adopted a new strategy to reassure its users. If Apple had outright given up on eavesdropping, Google now offers users the option of choosing. By default, these listenings are no longer performed. It also specifies that despite the configuration chosen by the user, it will always be possible to go back and request the deletion of the information recorded by the assistant. In its press release, dated last October, Google also explains playing transparency by adding new questions on the security and privacy. The firm announces that each month, it responds to no less than 3 million questions relating to the subject.
