Growth in demand for specialized education in IT and management slowed down

Analysts of the online learning market noted a slowdown in the growth of demand for additional professional education. In the first quarter of 2023, interest increased by 21%, although it was 27% in the same period of the previous year.

Among the rapidly losing popularity areas is IT. After the peak demand last year (due to state benefits in this area), there was a decline, which experts attribute to the difficulty in finding a job after completing the courses.

The HR market is dissatisfied with the quality of graduate training, besides, the number of junior specialists (who are trained by platforms) is significantly higher than the average and top ones, and they are in demand by the market.

Other areas of CPE are also losing popularity: for example, “in March, the demand for courses in programming, analytics, business and management decreased” (data from Netology).

In general, the online education market in the first quarter of 2023 grew by 23%, and the revenue of the largest players during this time reached 25 billion rubles.

There is a redistribution of demand: creative areas are becoming more in demand. Skillbox calculated: “cinema and music” (+43% year-on-year), “producer of musical projects” (+57%), “editor” (+18%)”.

All this gives some market participants some hope: for example, Ultimate Education President Pavel Moseykin believes that the CVE segment will recover by the end of the year and may even show growth of up to 30%.

Smart Ranking also analyzes the entire market as a whole, predicting a growth of 20–25% to 100 billion rubles by December.
