The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the ‘4th industrial strategy roundtable’ presided over by Minister Chang-yang Lee at the Korea Chamber of Commerce, Seoul on the 6th and announced the ‘Strategy to Reinforce Competitiveness of Carbon Composites in Response to the Aerospace and Defense Era’.

The meeting was attended by companies in the carbon composite materials, aerospace, and defense industries, including Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) CEO Kang Gu-young, Kukdo Chemical Vice Chairman Park Jong-soo, Korea Carbon Chairman Cho Moon-soo, and Hanwha Aerospace Vice President Hong Jae-ki.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) presented the goal of securing world-class technology and achieving 10% of the global market share by 2030 with the core pillars of △bold investment in technology development △expanding private production capacity △promoting the use of carbon composites.

The Ministry of Industry plans to invest a total of 185 billion won in technology development by 2030. High-strength carbon fiber, which was the third in the world to secure original technology in August this year, will establish a mass production system by 2025, and ultra-high-strength carbon fiber with 15 times the strength of steel and ultra-high modulus carbon fiber with 13 times the strength of steel by 2028. We plan to secure original technology.
