Green taxonomy: new M5S motion to say no to gas and nuclear power

by Gianni Girotto – The Government must oppose, in all appropriate fora at European level, the complementary Delegated Act on nuclear and natural gas and assess whether there are elements to contest its adoption before the European Court of Justice.

This is what we ask in the motion just presented, which sees me as the first signatory together with all the members of the 5 Star Senate Movement Group.

Introducing fossil gas and nuclear energy production into the European green taxonomy not only contradicts the actions already taken by the European Union to make the ecological transition a reality, but also upsets what is established in the Green Deal, ignoring the principle of “who pollutes pays ”and that of“ not causing significant damage to any other environmental objective ”.

Perhaps we have forgotten that the EU itself has confirmed that 75% of greenhouse gases come from the current energy supply chain. Moving forward on this path, continuing to consider sustainable sources that are not sustainable at all will be a bloodbath, not the other way around.

The clean energy transition is the best insurance against commodity and price crises like the one the EU is facing today.

The only structural way that the 5 Star Movement identifies is the completion of the energy market rules for full access to renewables and new models that consider consumers an active part of the process, towards the electrification of consumption.

Not following it means never making us free and energetically independent.
