GREEN CITY AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY ACTION PLAN

Yesterday (February 24, 2021), the action plan for the green city (GCAP) and sustainable energy and climate (SECAP) was presented in Belgrade. These strategic documents are the basis for further development of Belgrade, primarily in terms of ecology and environmental development.

Belgrade is building a lot in terms of infrastructure, but the aspect concerning the environment is as important as the entire infrastructural development of Belgrade. From the industrial revolution until today, the issue of energy has been one of the key issues when it comes to the development of the economy. In recent decades, along with the aspect of energy consumption and production, the issue of ecology and the environment has been inseparable from that topic.

By signing the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, Belgrade has committed itself to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 40 percent by 2030, and by 2050 the entire European Union aims to reduce those emissions to zero.

The plan also focuses on transport in Belgrade, as well as roads that move traffic to the outskirts of the city, taking priority. The plan envisions that about 770 million euros will be invested in wastewater treatment, 300 million euros in energy efficiency, 100 million in landscaping and raising the percentage of areas under forest to 20 percent, 40 million in the position of line park and development of green areas life in nature in a modern way.

An important part of the project are four waste collection and recycling centers, as well as two waste collection centers with a total value of 20 million euros.
