SARAJEVO – Chairman of the Council of Ministers Zoran Tegeltija emphasized at the Summit of Western Balkan Leaders in Tirana the importance of regional economic integration and the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans, which has a huge potential for reducing the gap in economic development between the Western Balkans and EU.
Participating in a panel on “Connectivity in the Western Balkans – Financial Support, EU Economic and Investment Plan and IPA Three”, Tegeltija said the crisis caused by the spread of the coronavirus pandemic showed the importance of regional co-operation, socio-economic interdependence in the region and the need to further deepen ties, both within the Western Balkans and with the EU.
“Improving investment is a key element and driver of productivity and competitiveness of the economy – investing in the development of infrastructure connectivity and every other type of connectivity in the region is certainly a priority to focus on in the context of long-term economic recovery.” said the chairman of the Council of Ministers.
Pointing out the evident need to start a large investment cycle, Tegeltija pointed out that it is necessary to create conditions for successful realization of priority connection projects in synergy with the EU through joint efforts.
“In this context, President Tegeltija welcomed the ‘long-awaited political agreement between the European Parliament and the Council on IPA Three’, emphasizing that this is an additional motivation for the most efficient implementation of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans,” the Council of Ministers said in a statement.
During his address, Tegeltija expressed the readiness of the Council of Ministers to support all projects aimed at improving the economic and business environment, and thus improving the living standards of citizens, and in that context welcomed the holding of such meetings.
