Google, it’s time to get this brothel. The share menu in Android 12 is still tragic

You may not like Android, you can love it, but probably everyone will agree with one thing: the system sharing menu is tragic. It’s just a fact, not an opinion.

Displaying installed applications in random order, suggesting contacts to whom you haven’t sent anything since 1983 & hairsp; – & hairsp; classic.

Until the release of Android 10 from 2019, each time you clicked “share”, the system made a list of all installed applications anew and segregated them according to the guidelines known only to Google. Effect? The apps took a long time to load and could be displayed in a different order each time.

In addition, Google does not mind that external programs have their own sharing menu implemented, which it uses itself. For example, the menu in Google Photos looks and works completely different than in the rest of the system. Cohesion? Who needs it?

Subsequent versions of Android brought minor improvements, but still sharing files from one app to another was a nightmare. Meanwhile…

Android 12 allows you to more conveniently edit the application list in the Shared menu

A few days ago, I installed Android 12 and One UI 4 on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. One of the first changes I noticed is the refreshed sharing menu.

After expanding the list of all applications, it appears edit button. You can manually select the apps you want to show first.

Similarly, although with minor differences in the interface, it works on Pixels with Android 12. There is a chance that the free edition of the sharing menu will also go to smartphones from other manufacturers.

It is true that you could pin several programs in the middle of the list before, but in a not very intuitive way, which made it hardly known to anyone. The new solution is more readable and more convenient.

Unfortunately, it is subject to editing only the order in which the programs are displayed, not the contacts. And here we come to the main problem.

The suggestions in the share menu are still useless

The programs that I have manually selected are only visible on the second line. The first is filled automatically generated suggestionswhich I cannot change.

After selecting the movie in the gallery, Android 12 suggests I send it:

  • for a browser I have not used for 4 years;
  • on a phone that I haven’t had for 6 years;
  • to Twitter users with whom I have not had contact for 6 and 2 months, respectively.

And no, it’s not just a weird bug that befell me since I was born on Friday the 13th. Useless suggestions have been complaining about for years by Android users, world wide and long.

Google, why keep on wading? If you can’t design Android to at least pretend to be trying to predict your intentions & hairsp; – & hairsp; fine. But stop pushing your suggestions by force. Just give me full control over the order in which contacts and programs are displayed. I will spend these 2 minutes compiling the list in such a way that it is convenient for me. I prefer this to being doomed to endlessly tormenting myself with an “intelligent” algorithm that doesn’t work.
