The developer conference I/O was one of the most anticipated Google events in 2022 – not without reason, after all, in addition to the Pixel 6a and Android 13, other innovations such as the Pixel Buds Pro were presented during the keynote. The rumors about a Pixel Watch were also confirmed – we show all information about the new products in the Google Pixel family in the following overview.

Google Pixel 6a: All technical data at a glance

As usual with Google, the Pixel 6a is based on the standard version of the current generation, but in a slightly slimmed-down version. The Pixel 6a will be slightly smaller with a 6.1-inch display and will only support a refresh rate of 60 Hertz. The resolution is also reduced accordingly to 2,400 x 1,080 pixels.

As with all current Pixel smartphones, Google’s in-house Tensor chip works inside, which is also 5G-capable, among other things. Only one variant is available on the memory side: six gigabytes of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory are included. However, this cannot be expanded via memory card.

The camera module of the Pixel 6a looks identical to the regular 6 model, but the sensor of the wide-angle camera has a significantly smaller resolution of twelve instead of 50 megapixels than the two higher-priced versions. The telephoto lens is still reserved for the Pro model.

Google has not yet commented on the battery life of the Pixel 6a – more information will follow at the latest when the Pixel 6a is released on July 21st. From this point in time, the pre-order phase of the smartphone begins, which will then be available for 459 euros in the colors black, white and green.

Google Pixel Buds Pro: The in-ear headphones in detail

Google goes the opposite way with its in-ear headphones, which are upgraded with the Pixel Buds Pro compared to their predecessors. Visually, not much has changed here, only the color selection has been expanded somewhat and has one of four accent colors in addition to the usual black tone.

Technically, active noise canceling (ANC) is an important and expected innovation for the Pixel Buds Pro, which is also equipped with a transparency mode that can transmit ambient noise if necessary. A software update should also equip the in-ear headphones with surround sound.

Depending on the activated ANC, the Pixel Buds Pro should each have seven or eleven hours of battery life. Similar to the Pixel 6a, the sales phase will start on July 21st – the Pixel Buds Pro will be available in orange, green, blue and gray for just under 220 euros.

Google Pixel Watch: First details known

After years of speculation, Google’s first own smartwatch was teased for the first time: The Pixel Watch is to be launched in the current calendar year – however, Google’s hardware boss Rick Osterloh could not elicit many details.

A large-scale integration of the Pixel Watch into the Fitbit ecosystem, which has made a name for itself in the smartwatch market primarily through its precise fitness tracking, is considered certain. It can also be assumed that Wear OS 3, which was announced at the last I/O, will make its debut on the Pixel Watch.

Android 13: Google Wallet returns

There was also a first glimpse of Android 13: The latest version of Google’s mobile operating system is already being tested in the first developer previews and betas and is primarily based on improvements to privacy settings. In the future, apps will have to ask for permissions more frequently, for example to gain access to the camera or microphone.

The biggest change so far is the return of Google’s wallet app: This replaces the previously known Google Pay and is intended to serve as a comprehensive digital collection of cards – in addition to credit or customer cards, state ID cards should also be able to be replaced in the future.
