The golden jubilee of Jahangirnagar University, established in 1971, has been celebrated on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the Surban Jayanti on Tuesday (January 12) at 9.30 am by hoisting the national flag and the university flag in front of the Faculty of Business Studies.
After that, a tree planting program was held at the foot of the Shaheed Minar of the university and a commemorative virtual discussion meeting was held under the direction of Professor Alamgir Kabir, Director of the Student-Teacher Center.
At the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam said, “We thought that there might be some virtual discussion meetings in Corona, but much better than that.” He thanked the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Education for their unexpected allocation to the ongoing development project, recalling different periods of time at the university.
Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim, a former student of the history department, said on the occasion of Subarna Jayanti through social media, “University education has helped me to become a full-fledged person.” I am proud to be a student of Jahangirnagar University. I hope that the quality of education and research activities of our university will continue to increase.
In addition, national flags, university flags and alumni flags were hoisted outside the main gate of the university on the occasion of the day at the initiative of the Alumni Association. Incidentally, Jahangirnagar Muslim University was established in 1960. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1971 by SM Ahsan, the then Governor of East Pakistan. At that time the journey started with 150 students and 21 teachers in the departments of statistics, geography, mathematics and economics. Later, in 1973, the University Act was passed and the word Muslim was dropped to make Jahangirnagar University.
